Crown Lengthening in Oakville

Crown lengthening is a procedure that is completed when your dentist does not have enough tooth structure available to them, to properly restore the tooth. The crown (which is the upper portion of the tooth, visible in the mouth) needs to be “lengthened” to allow for more of it to be visible in the mouth. This most commonly occurs when a tooth has fractured or has decay which is below the gum line.

The procedure itself involves a small removal of gum tissue and bone, after which the tooth will appear longer. Most frequently, this is a procedure performed on teeth that are planning to have a crown, or cap, placed. Once the procedure has been completed, the site needs to heal for approximately 6 weeks before your dentist can complete the restoration.
